The European Union is implementing strict new cybersecurity regulations aimed at protecting citizens, securing critical infrastructure, and standardizing security across digital devices and networks.
Key among these are the updated Radio Equipment Directive (RED) and the upcoming Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). These regulations require device makers and software developers to integrate robust cybersecurity measures early in product development, rather than as a last-minute step. The RED Delegated Act (DA) now mandates enhanced privacy, fraud prevention, and network resilience for any radio equipment that can autonomously connect to the Internet. Meanwhile, the CRA introduces lifecycle-wide cybersecurity responsibilities for connected products, with severe penalties for non-compliance. Given long development cycles and complex supply chains, IoT companies must act immediately to ensure readiness.
